Riverside County Real Estate Appraisals
The Riverside County property appraiser is responsible for determining the
value of your home for tax purposes. They are not responsible for the collection
of the taxes, nor do they accept payments for your taxes. Their only
responsibility is to determine how much you pay. The County of Riverside is in
charge of the collection and all monies should be sent directly to them. If you
have questions about your tax bill or feel it is incorrect then you may contact
the Riverside Property Appraiser's Office and speak to them directly. In most
cases the value of your home is determined by the sales price of your home when
you purchased it. It will them increase by 2% a year unless you make changes to
the size of the home by putting in an addition or adding a pool for example.
This will then increase the value of your home possibly which in turn would
increase the taxable value. If it is determined that the value of your home has
increased due to the improvements you may receive a supplemental tax bill during
the year. This will reflect the amount due to the county for the time that the
property value was increased. You will pay 1% of the taxable value of your home
in property taxes.
You may be eligible for tax exemptions so check with the property appraiser's
office. Some of the exemptions that are available to the homeowners are a
homestead exemption and a veteran's exemption. For those that own businesses or
other property you will need to contact the assessor's office for other
exemptions you may qualify for. There are certain programs that are available to
senior citizens, disabled and blind citizens that are unable to pay their taxes.
These people can apply for a postponement of taxes. Once approved the county
will send them a certificate that they will need to sign and return. The taxes
due will be kept in an account until the property is sold or the person passes
away at which time the money will be paid back to the county from the sale of
the home.
